Brescia leadership and other special guests from the London community will be on hand to celebrate the graduation of Jennifer Vale, who is the first recipient of the Sisters of St. Joseph Bursary at Brescia. The ceremony will recognize the Sisters of St. Joseph and Ontario Works for their efforts in creating the bursary and will take place on Tuesday, June 17 at 12:00 p.m. at Brescia. Special guests might include: Honourable Deb Matthews, M.P.P., London North Centre and Minister of Health; Ms. Susan Truppe, M.P. London North Centre and Parliamentary Secretary for Status of Women; Sister Joan Atkinson, from the Sisters of St. Joseph; and Jane Ellyat from Ontario Works. The Sisters of St. Joseph made a substantial gift of $150,000 in 2008 to Brescia University College and an additional $350,000 to Fanshawe College. Through the matching programs of the Ontario Trust for Student Support (OTSS) these gifts have resulted in more than $1.3 million in funding for post-secondary education in London. The objective for this bursary was to help stop the cycle of poverty. The celebration will be held on Tuesday, June 17, at 12:00 p.m. at Brescia, in the first-floor lounge of Clare Hall.
