London, ON – The nonprofit and charitable sector in Canada, which is strongly female dominated, is rapidly growing and currently represents 11 per cent of the working population. Recognizing the need for more trained professionals to meet this growing workforce, Brescia University College has launched a Nonprofit Management program and is accepting applications for the September 2015-16 school year. Brescia is the first and only University in Canada to offer this full undergraduate degree program in Nonprofit Management, which combines courses in leadership, community development, nonprofit, and general management.

Program creators and Associate Professors   Colleen Sharen and Melissa Jean, are thrilled to see the establishment of this program. Jean explains, “Brescia is proud to offer an academic program that meets the needs of the nonprofit and charitable sector through educating the individuals required to lead positive change in these organizations. Our Nonprofit Management program is unique in that it will equip students with both the management competencies and the ability to appreciate the process of community development.”

Through the four-year undergraduate program, students will have the opportunity to experience field studies, simulations, case studies, exercises, live problems, and in-depth lectures. In addition, students will have the opportunity to apply to the Management and Organization Studies paid internship program, providing eight to 16 months of in-field experience.

Dr. Donna Rogers, Vice-Principal and Academic Dean, affirms, “The new Nonprofit module perfectly aligns with Brescia’s mission of being a student-centred community that educates women to think critically and to participate actively in society. There is no other undergraduate degree program that will better prepare students for careers in this field and we are excited to be the first in Canada to offer this program.”
