Brescia faculty pursue certification with labour relations board

July 21, 2011

London, ON – On July 12th the Brescia Faculty Association (BFA) filed an Application for Certification with the Ontario Labour Relations Board. As is required by Ontario law, a certification vote was held. The vote, which took place on July 19th, resulted in unanimous support for the BFA among the undisputed votes that were cast.

Principal Colleen Hanycz acknowledges the process and the collegial participation of the faculty. “I want to thank everyone who took the time to participate in this critical democratic process at Brescia. Certainly, it came at a time when many colleagues are focusing on research and scholarly pursuits or are taking holidays, so I do recognize the extra effort that this participation required. Brescia has enjoyed collegial working relationships across all sectors for 90 years and I know that this will continue well into the future, as we all endeavour to focus on compassion and a student-centred environment.”

President of the Faculty Association, Dennis Hudecki, a Professor of Philosophy at Brescia, echoes Principal Hanycz’s words. “We are delighted with all the support that the faculty showed. We look forward to continuing the history of harmonious employer/employee relations at Brescia.”

There are a few outstanding legal issues that need to be resolved by the Labour Board but the expectation is that all of these will be dealt with by the end of the summer.
